Tabal received P250,000 and a trophy for her outstanding showing in the 42K Open category, while Poliquit received P150,000 and a trophy for his win in the 42K Local category. Both will have the chance to run in an international marathon in 2015, with all-expense paid trips sponsored by MILO.

It was Rose Nyangacha who won the Open category title with a time of two hours, 47 minutes and 33 seconds. Tabal finished behind Nyangacha, submitting a time of 2:51:55. Immaculate Chemutai (2:52:49) completed the podium finishers.

It was a tough competition amongst former MILO Marathon Queens in the 42K Local category. Christabel Martes led the pack and posted a time of 3:03:49, while Mary Grace Delos Santos (03:05:34) and Jhoan Banayag (3:07:59) came in second and third place, respectively.

“There was a lot of pressure on me since I was expected by many to retain the title. I needed to overcome that immense amount of pressure and nervousness. I motivated myself to push harder and to enjoy the race. It was also good because I challenged myself to become better,” shared Tabal.

“I am happy that I had another chance to show what I can do and what I am capable of. I hope to inspire more Filipino runners, especially the kids, to continue running and striving to achieve their dreams.”

Kenyans dominated the male 42K Open category, with 2011 MILO Marathon champion James Tallam recording an impressive time of 2:21:08, Josphat Kiptanui (2:21:31) following in second and Joel Kiplimo Kemboi (2:21:31) in third.
First-time champion Rafael Poliquit set a swift pace against his local rivals with a time of 02:32:29, relegating five-time MILO Marathon King Eduardo Buenavista (02:33:56) to second place and Ireneo Raquin (02:35:50) to third place.

“I trained everyday with 20km runs, and a race every Sunday. I am my own coach. I did not expect to win because it is quite tough to balance work and training, but my victory today proved that despite difficulties, I am still able to compete with the nation’s elite runners,” expressed Poliquit.

It was also his first time to face five-time MILO Marathon King Eduardo Buenavista in the 42K event. Both are members of the Air Force of the Philippines, and Buenavista happens to be Poliquit’s senior officer.

“I could not believe I was able to beat Sir Eduardo. He is already an established veteran and one of the country’s running greats. He is my running idol. I admire him so much and he will continue to inspire me in my career.”

Kids, students, parents and families joined in on the fun as the running community gathered in the nation’s biggest footrace. Celebrity triathlete Kuya Kim Atienza ran in the 21K race, while fellow fitness buff, actress Anne Curtis, ran in the 10K race.
With the support of the Department of Education and the National MILO Marathon runners, MILO’s Help Gives Shoes advocacy will provide 16,000 underprivileged youth with brand new running shoes and reach the 50,000 mark this year. The 20-year-old University of Mindanao student has been running in the MILO Marathon for four years now, but it is his first time to race and win the 21K running event.

“I feel so happy and blessed that I won, because everyone knew I never ran 21K before today. I didn’t expect to win because at the start, there were many runners ahead of me. I attacked at the turning point, and thankfully, I won,” shared Wagos.

“It’s an amazing feeling. After the race, a kid approached me and asked if I am Sonny Wagdos. He wanted to have a picture taken with me. He told me that he was amazed that I won, and watching me made him want to try running. It’s heartwarming to know that I am able to inspire others, especially kids.”

On the distaff side, Miranda finished impressively with a time of 1:33:55, outpacing fellow runners Madelyn Carter 1:49:43), and Daisy Joy Dayondon (01:58:09).

Miranda, a 29-year-old native of Tagum City, also won first place in the 2013 Butuan leg of the National MILO Marathon. When she was younger, she used to watch her older sisters run, and seeing them engage in the sport inspired her to join them in the races.

“My older sister Rosalie still runs with me today, and we are also joined by my son. He ran in the 3K race in Cagayan De Oro,” shared Miranda. “I felt that my training for this race was inadequate because I was very busy at work and caring for my son. I only ran whenever I had the time. I also had a difficult time during the race because I experienced stomach cramps and had a hard time breathing in the last 15 minutes of the race. Despite all this, I am grateful to God for still giving me the chance to win.”
Tabal won first place in the 21K female category, while fellow elite runner Gerald Zabala topped the ranks in the 21K male category.

Each received a cash prize of P10,000 and a trophy. In addition to the prizes, Zabala also secured his slot in the upcoming National Finals on December 7 at the Mall of Asia grounds in Manila. Tabal, by virtue of her triumph last year, is already assured of a slot in the finals.
Tabby, as she is fondly called, is now looking to defend her MILO Marathon Queen crown in December.

“I really want to run in the Tokyo marathon. My experience in the Paris marathon was amazing, and I want to experience running in another top international marathon. Even if it was quite tough getting acclimatized to the weather, I was able to get in to the Top 20,” shared Tabal.

“Hopefully I will be named the Queen again. My coach Philip Dueñas constantly motivates me and makes sure I have the proper training, diet and recovery. I am very grateful to him.”

Having won numerous honors in both local and international races, Tabal has become a celebrity in her own right. However, she does not let the spotlight distract her, and instead, uses it to inspire others.

“It’s heartwarming and humbling that a lot of people look up to me. I also get inspired by them. It makes me happy knowing that I am able to inspire others to pursue running,” said Tabal.

”My parents and my family are my biggest fans. It’s funny because when they see me in the news and newspapers, they feel like they are becoming famous, too. They are very proud of me. They also motivate and inspire me to keep on doing my best.”

In the men’s category, competition proved to be tougher, with top contender Jerald Zabala beating Bobby Tadlas only by less than a second. Zabala recorded a personal best of one hour, 13 minutes and 49 seconds while second placer Bobby Tadlas posted a time of 1:14:00, and third placer Ramil Neri with a time of 1:15:09.

Zabala, a 26-year-old hailing from Cagayan De Oro, has definitely come a long way since he started running. Though he has been an elite runner for just four years, he has been joining the MILO Marathon for 10 years now and has been consistently qualifying for the National Finals.

“This is my first time to win first place, and I’m very happy that I was also able to break my personal record,” said Zabala. “I didn’t expect to win because I wasn’t able to train properly. My wife is in Manila, so I’m the one who is taking care of our son, whose birthday is today. I dedicate my victory to him.”

Zabala has also been joining the MILO R2-APEX Running Clinics in Cagayan De Oro for three years now. “I am very grateful to Coach Jim Saret. I have been able to use everything he taught me in my training,” said Zabala. “I will continue applying what he taught me to my training for the National Finals.”
CEBU City (12 October 2014) – First-time winners Noel Tillor and Roselyn Balongcas won the 21K events of the 13th qualifying race of the National MILO Marathon held in Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu City, on Sunday.

A record-shattering 26,736 runners joined the nation’s biggest and most prestigious race in the Queen City of the South, making it the largest regional race of the season so far. Along with Tillor and Balongcas, 86 runners secured their qualifying slots for the National Finals slated on December 7 in the Mall of Asia grounds, Manila.

Tillor and Balongcas each received a prize of P10,000 in cash, a trophy. Both have booked their slots to the National Finals on December 7, for a chance to compete for the MILO Marathon King and Queen title. As an added level of prestige to the competition, MILO will send this year’s King and Queen to the 2015 Tokyo Marathon, with trips all expenses paid.
Despite the rains that showered Cebu in the past days, the runners were blessed with good weather and Tillor definitely used it to his advantage, finishing with a time of one hour, 13 minutes and 10 seconds. Jerry Adap followed in second place (1:15:21) and Robert Daang in third place (1:17:38).
A 33-year-old automotive technician from Cebu, Tillor finished 7th in last year’s National MILO Marathon Manila race, and 11th in the National Finals. “This is the first time I finished first place,” shared Tillor. “I trained for almost three months, but not full time because of work. I really did not expect it because the other runners have been training full time. It’s a big achievement. I always enjoy running and feel very satisfied when I run, and I will continue running for as long my body can.”

It was Balongcas’ first time to join the National MILO Marathon and she won the distaff side with a time of 1:40:55, comfortably finishing nine minutes ahead of second placer Christy Sevilleno (01:49:16) and third placer Sandra Soliano (01:49:54).

Hailing from Dumaguete, the 33-year-old single mother travelled with her teenage son for four hours by land to Cebu to join the race. Though unemployed, she has her own ham and sausage business and finds time to run as a form of exercise and self-fulfilment. “I’m very happy that I won and I’m very proud to represent my hometown of Dumaguete,” expressed Balongcas. “I’m also proud of my son who joined the 3K race. I will use the prize money for his schooling.”

The Cebuano community came together and celebrated their passion for running in a true festive fashion. Cebu City councillors, including Margarita Osmeña, James Cuenco, and Sisinio Andales, also ran the 3K race, along with several candidates of the Ms. Cebu beauty pageant.
One of Cebu’s most promising triathletes Yuan Chiongbian, who recently placed second in the Ironkids triathlon, also ran with his brother Justin, a national junior triathlete.

“We love joining the National MILO Marathon because it helps us with our training for the triathlons and other sports competition that we join. It’s a really well-organized race,” said Chiongbian. “It’s like a big family gathering, lots of people always join and there’s always so much joy in the MILO marathons.”

MILO Sports Marketing Manager Andrew Neri expressed his delight in the success of this year’s Cebu race. “We are overwhelmed with the amount of runners who joined the race that surpassed last year’s record headcount. It proves that each year, the competition is always improving and enticing athletes, young and old alike, to join in the fun and camaraderie,” said Neri.

“We would like to thank our local organizer Ricky Ballesteros and his team for all the hard work in the preparations, and for ensuring that our runners will get the experience possible. We would also like to commend the invaluable support from all the Cebuanos. We are truly grateful.”
The seventh edition of the Condura Skyway Marathon will take place on Feb. 1, 2015 with a special mission of providing support to the families of Filipino soldiers killed or injured in action.

Ton Concepcion, founder and chief organizing officer of the Condura Skyway Marathon, told yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate that this year’s race is dubbed “Run for a Hero.”

“This is a very special race,” said Concepcion, who was joined in the forum by race ambassador Patrick Concepcion and celebrity running coach and race director Rio dela Cruz.

The Hero Foundation, this year’s beneficiary, was represented by its executive director, retired Maj. Gen. Daniel Casabar, and marketing director Michelle Chan. Also present were Bhaby Lorenzo of Asics and Tony Reyes of title sponsor Skyway O&M Corp.

Concepcion said the only race in the country that is ran on the skyway will have events in the 6K, 10K, 21K and 42K, the centerpiece event that will be flagged off past midnight.

“We started this race with the vision of coming up with a world-class race and to make the Philippines a better place. But over the years we’ve had beneficiaries,” he said.

“It’s always been for a cause. And this year it’s for the Hero Foundation,” Concepcion said, adding they expect to draw a total of 15,000 participants, including foreigners.

Dela Cruz said deadline for registration ends Oct. 15 at seven Asics stores nationwide. So far, 9,000 runners have registered, but once they hit 15,000, registration automatically ends.

Casabar said the Hero Foundation is a non-government-organization and is neither under the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It’s a foundation put up by former President Corazon Aquino and former Defense Secretary Renato de Villa in 1988.

“Our soldiers die in combat and this leaves their widows and children with nowhere to go. Then the foundation was conceived with the help of the industrial bigwigs, and it provides education to the children,” he said.

“Instead of giving money, we provide education,” Casabar said.

“It’s a message to our soldiers that we care. We want to send them that message. We want our soldiers to feel that they are loved,” added Chan.

She said the Hero Foundation has helped the families of over 700 soldiers, mostly based in Mindanao, involving over 2,400 children, 900 of them have graduated from high school.

Proceeds of this year’s Condura Skyway Marathon, which was set aside last year due to Typhoon Yolanda, will help bring at least 125 children through high school.

“This race will be a sea of love for the military orphans,” Chan added.

BACOLOD City (28 Sept. 2014) – Elite runners Maclin Sadia and Stephani Cadosale emerged victorious in their respective categories in the 21K main event of the 38th National MILO Marathon Bacolod Qualifying Race.

The competition was participated by 9,266 runners – double that of last year when the race was held in Dumaguete.

With their victories, Sadia and Cadosale went home P10,000 richer and earned two of the coveted slots to the National Finals on December 7 that gave them the chance to compete for the MILO Marathon King and Queen titles. MILO will send this year’s King and Queen to Japan on an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Tokyo Marathon.

In a highly contested race for the 21k male title, 21-year-old Maclin Sadia outlasted his rivals by posting a time of one hour, 14 minutes and 16 seconds, narrowly edging Joel Alcorin (1:14:22) and Rowell Hulleza (01:17:16) who finished second and third place, respectively.

Sadia, who hails from Cadiz City, started running during his elementary days but was forced to stop going to school because of funding problems and worked as a delivery boy to support his ten other siblings. He rekindled his love affair with running and trained under hisfather Alino Sadia, a former runner who used to compete in marathons in Bacolod.
“My expectations was to finish with a good clocking, now I am grateful to not only won but achieve a career-best finish with this performance,” said Sadia.

In the distaff side, Cadosale displayed a relentless drive from the get go, finishing with an impressive time of 1:33:43, relegating Mereeis Ramierez (01:38:59) to second place, and Iresh Belleza (01:42:42) to third place.

Cadosale, a 4th-year college student of Central Philippine University, started running before finishing her elementary education. She continued to hone her technique and develop her endurance, eventually earning an athletic scholarship in Track and Field at the university level.

With podium finishes in fun runs and school competitions under the State and Colleges Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA), she also prides herself with accolades in past MILO Marathons, winning gold in Bacolod (2012) and silver in Iloilo (2013).

Though lacking in training because of the rainy weather conditions leading to the race, she used her experience to win the race.

“It was rainy leading up to this event but during my free time, I did some long runs and managed to work on my speed,” shared Cadosale. “My family was very supportive throughout the process and I owe this win to them.”

Each year, thousands of Filipinos join the National MILO Marathon and conquer the races together.

”We at MILO are thrilled to see a diverse set of participants ranging from kids, teens to adults,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Marketing Manager.

“The National MILO Marathon has seen champions emerge from every corner of the country and it is gratifying to be a part of a program that makes aspiring athletes reach for their dreams.”

Each pocketed a prize of P10,000 in cash, a trophy and a coveted slot to the National Finals on December 7, for a chance to be crowned as the MILO Marathon King and Queen. MILO will send this year’s King and Queen to Japan on an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Tokyo Marathon. Over 8,000 runners joined today’s race.

Not even the rainy skies and slippery wet roads could stop the racers from running to their heart’s content. In the 21K male category, 24-year-old Lyceum of the Philippines Batangas Criminology student Joseph Macaladlad beat his fiercest rivals, posting a time of 01:17:14, relegating Greg Vincent Osorio (01:19:25) and Jay Laya (01:19:43) to second and third place, respectively.
“I really love running. I’m grateful that I am able to use my winnings for my college tuition and expenses,” said Macaladlad.

Running definitely runs in their family, with their names consistently appearing at the top of running results in the different race categories of the MILO Marathon, amongst various races.

“My sisters and I are all runners. We grew up into a poor family, and we had to go to school which was about 11 kilometers away from our house. We would run to school to avoid being late, and that was the start of our foray into running,” shared Jaro.

“Our family is our inspiration, and our eldest sister Cynthia is our biggest influence. She was the one who first started running competitively, and we all followed in her footsteps. Through running, we are able to help our family enjoy a better life.”
The event is the final and third leg of the annual Run United Trilogy which will be held this coming October 5.

The race will start and end at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Lo and behold I received a box instead of a regular bag like in the first two legs of the trilogy, wherein you can opt to participate by running first in the 21k, then the 32k and finally the full marathon.

Runners can also participate in the trilogy by running in the the same distance, the challenge of which is to finish better after each race. This year my goal was to run in the 21k events of the trilogy and post better finishes after each race.

I am also participating in the media challenge wherein the top three participants who garnered the best score in the event's points system after running in all of the legs will earn not only bragging rights but medals and prizes.

However, I have decided at the start of the trilogy that my focus will be to participate and finish.
Back to the box. You can see from the photos above and below the contents of the race kit. A box of Enervon Activ multivitamins, Active Health Sports Gel, a box of Enervon HP Nutritional Drink for Adults and of course the singlet, the bib and the protective sun visor can be found inside the box which I think was designed to artfully present the contents.
To those who are familiar with the singlet designs of the trilogy, they will notice that the design for the final leg is very different compared to first two singlets.

From about 7,000 runners who joined the qualifying race, Warizal and Dela Rosa, together with 19 other runners, earned slots in the National Finals in Manila on December 7.
MILO Marathon.

Warizal, a 29-year-old native of Sta. Maria, Puerto Princesa, emerged victorious for the 21K men’s category with a time of 01:19:13, beating rivals Ben Alejandrino (01:21:26) and Nicko Cortes (01:22:42).

On the distaff side, 20-year-old Dela Rosa, also a local of Puerto Princesa, convincingly reclaimed her crown in the race, finishing at an impressive 01:39:24 Bernardita Mag-aso 01:47:56 Michelle Anne Tibagacay 01:51:37

Winning is not new for the seven-year veteran MILO marathoner but he always cherishes each hard-earned victory.

“I prepared for only two months, starting in July, but I couldn’t really focus on training because my job comes first. I really love my job, and of course I love running, but work is my priority,” said Warizal.

As a logistics helper, he helps deliver MILO and other Nestle products to sari-sari stores. In the past few weeks, Warizal shared that he usually does overtime at work and had to adjust his training.

“When I have time, I try to run at least five times a week, every morning at 4:30. I couldn’t run in the afternoons anymore because I’m too tired by then. I’m very happy that I still placed first despite feeling that my training isn’t enough. I went all out in this race, even if I started to feel cramping in my legs, I willed myself to go on,” said Warizal.

For youngster Dela Rosa, winning also comes almost naturally. She started running at five years old, joining her father, also a runner, in his training.

“I didn’t know I was training already then. I thought it was just fun and games. Eventually, my dad entered me in running events with him and we kept on winning, so I decided to pursue running,” shared Dela Rosa.

Like Warizal, preparing for the race was also a challenge for her. As a varsity member of the University of Santo Tomas’ track and field team, they focused on middle distance training for the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) track meets.

“I took my chances in joining the MILO marathon this year even if I felt that I didn’t prepare well for it. The uphill route proved to be very challenging because it consumes a lot more energy than running on flat surfaces. It was quite hard to maintain momentum,” Dela Rosa said.

“My strategy was to run at my own pace. It’s okay for others to go ahead of me, as long as I did my best. I’m glad that my best was enough for me to win this race, but I need to prepare well for the National Finals.”

With the support of the Department of Education and the National MILO
Marathon runners, MILO’s Help Gives Shoes advocacy will provide 16,000
underprivileged youth with brand new running shoes and reach the 50,000
mark this year. As MILO celebrates its 50th year, Help Give Shoes aims
to make the donation to students in Yolanda-hit cities, particularly
Tacloban, Ormoc, and Eastern Samar.

Warizal and Dela Rosa both have high praises for MILO’s Help Give Shoes Advocacy.

“This project is really admirable, because young runners who have great potential will be encouraged to pursue running. It’s hard to run barefooted, or wearing slippers. It’s such a great feeling to be able to help fellow runners,” shared Dela Rosa.

Warizal added, “I hope MILO continues to help the youth realize their dreams. A lot of children and even adults are being helped by the MILO Marathon and the MILO Little Olympics. It’s also very good exposure especially for the kids. They are able to get into sports and avoid vices and bad influences. We are very grateful to MILO.”

The qualifying race will resume in Lipa on September 14 and will head to Iloilo (September 21), Bacolod (September 28), Tagbilaran (October 5), Cebu (October 12), Butuan (October 19), Cagayan De Oro (November 9), General Santos (November 16), and Davao (November 23). The National Finals will be held on December 7 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City.
The runners were blessed with good weather and they surely used it to their advantage. The thrilling race saw Nerza finish ahead of Richard Salaño, who put up a good fight right to the final second. I thought I wouldn’t be able to catch up, but thankfully I was able to do so and even won,” shared Nerza.

“I still have a long way to go in terms of my training. Every day, I run in the morning and in the afternoon.
“I’m always proud to race in my hometown. I’m glad that the route was well-balanced. I was able to manage my time and pace well,” said Tawagin.

“The other contenders are also very good runners, and I’m sure that the competition will even be fiercer in the National Finals. I’ve been using my training for the AFP Olympics to help me prepare for the MILO Marathon. My everyday routine comprises of 5K runs and an extra two hours of training for endurance. My strategy for the finals needs to be adjusted because it’s a 42K event. Strength, endurance and discipline will be the areas I will focus on.”

Nerza and Tawagin have been joining the National MILO Marathon for four years now. Both have been consistently winning in regional legs and qualifying for the National Finals.

“Anthony and Janice are only two of our many unsung heroes from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. We are proud to say that we are able to engage our local heroes to participate in the MILO marathon each year,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Marketing Manager.

“We at MILO are delighted to honor their passion and devotion in serving the country, as well as their dedication to sports and athleticism. More than just the fun and excitement, the race will also support GMA Kapuso Foundation with various Energizer Lights and batteries to be used for their outreach programs.
Cara Ramirez-Tecson, Energizer Philippines, Inc. Marketing Manager explained the advocacy saying they are offering the run not just for the beneficiaries but for the runners too.

“We would like this year’s run to be a venue of fun and excitement for everyone who will join, so we’re focusing on their enjoyment this time more than anything else,” she said. “Beyond the beneficiaries, we will focus on our goal to provide that “fun” for the runners so we can radiate the positivenergy to everyone “said Tecson.

Though the running kits include a headlight that is worth P499, organizers of the event still made the run more affordable for runners with the price registration ranging from P600 for 3k runners, P700 for 5k and P800 for 10k runners.

“With the prices made very affordable, we are inviting everyone to come and join us in this event. This is a good venue to bond with families and friends as we spread positive energy,” said Lady Reyes, Energizer Philippines, Product Manager for Lights & Specialty.

The registration will start on August 2, 2014 at official registration sites including RUNNR at Bonifacio Global City, Alabang Town Center and Brooks SM North Edsa Annex. Details of the event registration are also available on Energizer’s website at www.energizerbatteries.com.ph. and www.Facebook.com/EnergizerPH.
It was a tight race as Jobert Carolino went head-to-head with Crescenciano Sabal and Sherwin Patron. Carolino was behind former champion Sabal for most of the race.

As they neared the finish line, Carolino picked up pace and raced to the end, finishing with a time of 01:15:20, relegating Sabal to second place (01:15:35) and Patron to third (01:22:34).

“Sabal was my toughest rival, I was behind him in the last few kilometers. In the last 500 meters, I gave it my all to beat him. He’s a very smart runner,” expressed Carolino, a bronze medalist at the Philippine Olympic Festival.

“To be honest, I was not really prepared for this race, I only started training last week when I joined two other races. With my slot in the finals secured, I will focus more on my training, especially enhancing my endurance.”

On the women's side, Philippine Air Force member Mischelle Gilbuena clinched the win with a time of 01:33:58. The 26-year-old veteran from Cebu, who usually joins the Tarlac leg of the MILO Marathon, struggled throughout the race because of the unfamiliar route. Still, she persevered under pressure and bested challengers Chloe Jane Ong (01:52:00) and Denise Hernandez (01:54:15).

“I was supposed to join the Tarlac leg last week but I felt that my training was inadequate. I had slight difficulties in running the route,” admitted Gilbuena. “I need to continue my training and work again on my endurance to be in top shape for the National Finals.”

Both Carolino and Gilbuena have been consistently qualifying for the National Finals since 2010 and 2008, respectively.
”The uphill and downhill route was quite difficult to navigate. It was a very tight race. I had to sprint in the final kilometer,” said the 34-year-old Sermona, a military soldier who hails from Bacolod.

“I am overjoyed that I won. For the national finals, I need to continue training to be able to give my best performance.”

Martes, the 34-year-old from La Trinidad, Benguet plans to take her training up a notch for the national finals.

“For the qualifying race, I did not do any intensive training, unlike before when I was still with the national team. I also had difficulty in the uphill parts of the route. I had to exert twice the effort,” expressed Martes. “My training consisted of jogging and recreational running only. I need to step it up and be consistent with my routine to maintain my form for the finals.”

Sermona and Martes both received P10, 000 and a trophy while securing their spots, along with 80 others, to compete in the National Finals on December 7 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds.

This season’s MILO Marathon King and Queen will get the chance to represent the country at the esteemed Tokyo Marathon in 2015.

The country’s biggest and most prestigious footrace expects 230,000 runners to participate this year.

Sharing the spotlight with the inspiring elite runners is 60-year-old Senen Garcia from Novaliches. Garcia qualified for the national finals, finishing with a time of 01:57:59.

“It’s a far cry from my record time of 01:07 back in the day,” laughs Garcia. “It’s harder to race now that I’m older, but my goal is to qualify for the national finals, and I’m very happy that I did. I’m also happy to contribute to the Help Give Shoes campaign.”

Josh Buenavista, son of two-time Olympian and reigning MILO Marathon King Eduardo “Vertek” Buenavista also joined the Baguio leg. The 12-year-old definitely followed in his father’s winning footsteps as he clinched the top spot in the 3K events, posting a record time of 00:08:34.

“My father encouraged me to take up running and join the MILO races,” said Josh, who has been running for four years now. “I really look up to him. He is my inspiration.”
CONGRATULATIONS to triathlon specialist Mary Joy Tabal, who according to reports, fought not only the sweltering Manila heat but an upset stomach to post a top spot finish in the 32k women's race of the recent Run United 2 which started and ended at the Km 0 in front of the Jose Rizal Monument at Luneta Park.

Tabal posted a time of two hours, 11 minutes and 28 seconds to win over former national runner and MILO
marathon champion Christabel Martes (2:11:58) eventual third placer Luisa
Raterta (2:27:52).

I may be wrong, but I think this is the first footrace in the country wherein runners negotiated part of the Cavitex. It was a different experience running on the Cavitex tarmac. I remember negotiating Commonwealth avenue during the Quezon City International Marathon and it always solicit a smile everytime I remember running in the inner lane of the most notorious highway in the country.

Runners run for different reasons.

Runners too have different reasons participating in the Run United.

As for the writers of this blog, what motivates me is finishing the trilogy.

I have been running in the Run United for several years now but never finished the trilogy.

Now, I have two 21k finishers' medals and hopefully get the third one comes October.
