Kenyan rules Philhealth run


KENYAN Joshpat Kiptanui bested the local bets even as early top favorite Cynthia Jaro lived up to her lofty billing in the Davao leg of the Mindanao-wide Philhealth Run recently at SM City Davao, according to the Scoop Davao Chapter's Facebook page.

Kiptanui clocked 58 minutes and 55 seconds to win the men’s open in the 17 kilometer race. He was followed in second by Anthony Nerza of Brokenshire College at one hour, two minutes and four seconds.

Third was Elmer Bartolo of Holy Cross of Davao College at 1:05:09.


Brian Lupio of HCDC and Criselyn Jaro of BC emerged top finishers in the 10K. Lupio submitted a time of 34:03 followed by UM’s Sony Wagdos (35:16) and BC’s Arnie Macaneras (35:56) as second and third, respectively.

Jaro clocked 43:50 followed by UM’s Vivian Avegonzado (47:18) and younger sister Cellie Rose Jaro (49:42).

The other top three winners: 5K – (men) 1st – Michael Constantino, BC (15:45), 2nd – Philip Ocon, UM (16:05), (women) 1st – Flordeliza Dodon, Baguio City (17:35), 2nd – Bethlouise Moralde, Emar (18:24), 3rd – Christy Capanarihan, UM (19:15).

3K – (men) 1st – Michael Barrosa (10:11), 2nd – Jerald Lamatan (10:43), 3rd – John Vincent Moralde (11:09); (women) 1st – Meezel Cabreros (12:31), 2nd – Maricris Caintic (13:31), 3rd – Ma. Lota Amistad (16:55).

More than 4,000 runners had joined the footrace officiated by the Vantage Sports Promotions of Kenneth Sai.
