DAVAO City -- Elmer Bartolo and Judelyn Miranda won the elite 21K divisions of the Run With The Masters held Sunday at the Davao Crocodile Park, according to the organizers.
Bartolo had a wide margin in topping the men's 18 to 29 years old category with a time of one hour, 17 minutes and 18 seconds against runner-up Nestor Madula, who clocked 1:32:12.
Miranda, on the other hand, beat early favorite Cynthia Jaro only by four seconds in the distaff side by crossing the finish line with a time of 1:48:40. Jaro settled for second place at 1:48:44.
Bartolo and Miranda both received P2,000 cash plus a medal while Madula and Jaro each pocketed P1,500 with medals awarded by Castrol Phils. Inc. VisMin area sales manager Edgar Ponce.
Former national team member Stella Mamac-Diaz submitted the second best time among the female runners in the 21k but was still good enough to win her age category in the 40-49 years old.
Diaz, who recently turned 40, clocked 1:48:43 and was followed by Joy Mawalic at 1:56:14.
Another comebacking veteran Monalisa Ambasa also shared the limelight by winning the 15K women's 18 to 29 category. She was followed by Emely Avergonzado.
More than 1,000 runners had joined the event held in commemoration of the fourth year founding anniversary of the Vantage Sports Promotion in partnership with Castrol Phils. Inc.
The proceeds will go to the House of Hope according to race organizer Kenneth Sai, who also dedicated the race in honor of his late father Victorio Sai and VSP's fourth year anniversary. The event was sponsored by Adidas, Unilab, Hygienix, SMART, International Pharmaceuticals Inc., Orix Metro, Croc Park, Unifrutti and Nestle Phils.
