Melchor Guarte followed up on the footsteps of elder brother Mervin as he topped the 10-kilometer run of the Stags Charity Run at the ASEANA City near the SM Mall of Asia and Macapagal Blvd. in Pasay City on Jan. 12.
And Guarte, 17, blazed his way to a dominating performance as he clocked 36 minutes and 48 seconds, way ahead of closest pursuers Zandrex Yumol and Jerome Udton, who checked in at 51.02 and 59.07 to wind up second and third places, respectively.
Guarte thus took over from elder sibling Mervin, who reigned supreme in the first three editions of this annual event that was done to generate funds for San Sebastian College's apostolic and charity missions in the provinces.
"I have prepared hard for this event and want to win this just like my brother (Mervin)," said Guarte, a third year high school student of San Sebastian who hails from Oriental Mindoro, in Filipino.
