Press Release: Energizer Night Race Manila 2013 spice up local runnning scene

Variety is the spice of life, and the same is true for runners, who also like to mix things up in regard to their routine and their training. This need for variation extends all the way to the events and competitions in which runners participate.

To satisfy different quirks and fancies, event organizers have explored a multitude of ways to keep the running community on their toes. This includes running competitions with added obstacles, on off-road tracks and, most recently, holding races at night.

Competitive racing in the dead of night certainly adds a different dimension to the running experience. Being enveloped by darkness requires runners to be more sensitive to the slightest conditions on the road, demanding complete focus and undivided attention. Preparations in the run-up to competition also vary. Training regimen, as well as prep time, tend to differ, too, which only adds to the challenge.

Local runners have already had the pleasure of trying out night races through different competitions already hosted here in the Philippines. This night race craze, however, started in 2011 with one event, the Energizer Night Race.

Marikina's 2nd Del Run slated on April 28

Marikina takes it fight against flooding, literally, one step at a time with the  upcoming Del Run (Save the Marikina Watershed) on April 28, 5:00 a.m., at the Marikina Sports Park.

Del Run is a fun run open to all with categories 5K, 10K and 21K, organizers said in a press release distributed to media outfits.

Marikina Mayor Del R. De Guzman said the project, which is on its second year, aims to raise funds to restore the 27,000-hectare Marikina Watershed. At its current state, there are not enough trees to prevent soil erosion which caused the Marikina River to become shallow and cause flooding in the city.

Energizer Night Race Manila 2013

I greatly enjoyed my first Energizer night race in 2011 held inside the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

It was a night to remember, although it was not my first night race.

The memories are still vivid. How can one forget the runners rushing out of the starting line with their lighted head gears?

At that instance, I remember my childhood when fireflies still roam the night and provide glittering almost hypnotic lights.

And on May 4, 2013, on the same venue, I will be reminiscing my childhood with fellow runners rushing out of the starting line like fireflies, providing the glittering light of the 5th Energizer Night Race Manila 2013.

Kenyans dominate 24th Yakult 10 Miler

Willy Rotich found little challenge from local foes as he and two other Kenyans once again came up with a 1-2-3 finish in the 24th Yakult 10-Miler (16-kilometer) at the Cultural Center Complex in Pasay City, organizers said.

With last year’s winner Benjamin Kipkazi not around to chase him, Rotich reached the Star City finish line along Vicente Sotto Ave. in 51 minutes and 30 seconds.

Rotich, who is still sore from a trailing running competition he joined with Kipkazi last Friday, was one minute and 14 seconds ahead of Eliud Kering, who was the only one chasing him halfway into the race.

Another Kenyan, Elijah Kipruto, took third coming in with a clocking of 54:20.

DAVAO CITY – According to Lito delos Reyes, the head of Davao SCOOP, the Havoc Zombie Run is set on April 7 at the Abreeza Mall featuring the “zombies” of the city.

“This is not your ordinary fun run since there will be zombies who will try to steal or get your three flags from the track area,” said organizer Kelvin John Du of the organizing Dare Davao at the SCOOP of the Royal Mandaya Hotel recently.
