Lupio, Jaro raring to qualify for the 36th MILO Marathon national finals

Manila, Philippines (November 6, 2012) – Last year’s top qualifiers Brian Lupio and Cynthia Jaro, both of whom are among the region’s finest runners, are set to stamp their class in the 36th MILO Marathon's Davao qualifying race this Sunday, organizers said in press statement released on Tuesday.

Also raring to make a comeback this year is Brokenshire College varsity mainstay Anthony Nerza. Nerza crossed the finish line shortly after Lupio last season.

“We are looking forward to seeing the strong running force of Davao compete in this Sunday’s race. New runners will challenge seasoned veterans in the sport, so it will be an interesting competition,” said Robbie de Vera, MILO Sports Executive.

Starting times have been set for the different race divisions, with the 21-k starting gun set to fire at 4:30AM, the 10-k race at 5:00AM, and the 5-k and 3-k races at 5:30AM. To entertain runners and spectators alike, local organizers will host an exciting cheer dance competition and special side events for local school delegations.
“We are privileged to have the continued support of the regional government in our effort to expand sports development in the country. Through the MILO Marathon, we are able to provide an opportunity for runners young and old to showcase their athletic prowess in the national arena. We are also able to continue our mission to inspire runners to strive hard for their dreams and at the same time run for a noble cause,” De Vera added.

Also this Sunday, 500 pairs of shoes will be given to beneficiaries under Nestle's "Help Give Shoes" advocacy program. Students from five schools in Davao City, namely Evico Nograles Elementary School, Sta. Ana National High School, San Roque Elementary School, Matina Central Elementary School and Cabantian National High School will receive brand new running shoes.

After the Davao eliminations leg, the competition will advance to Butuan City on November 18 and Cagayan de Oro City on November 25 for the last two remaining regional qualifying legs. The 36th MILO Marathon National Finals will be on December 9 at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds in Pasay City.
