Shrine Hills Challenge

Organizers of the Shrine Hills Challenge revealed on Tuesday that there are now 14 teams competing in this year's edition of the annual event which will be held on June 24, 5:30 a.m. at the Jack Ridge's Resort and Restaurant in Shrine Hills, in Davao City, Philippines.

Teams, according to a report posted on Scoop Davao Chapter facebook page, said that early registrants for the event were mRizal Commercial Bank Corp., Metrobank, China Bank, Security Bank, Petron Corp, Phoenix Petroleum Phils., Nexen Tire, Kim Guan Hardware, Golden Hardware, Holcim Phils. Inc., Stanfilco, Rodsy Marketing, Union Galvasteel, Image World and Davao Light and Power Co.

"We're expecting more teams to sign up before their briefing on June 6, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Barrio Bristo, Lacson St. in Bo Obrero," said race director Tom Tan of Run Man Racing.


Each team is composed of three runners, who will be running a designated distance to complete the race. Ekiden is a popular footrace in Japan which was also later introduced here in Davao City by the organizing Davao Sunday Runners Club.

This year's Shrine Hills Challenge will also have an individual race in the 10K and 5K categories. Cash prizes and medals are up for grabs to the winners. Registration is now on-going at the RunClub Davao. The assembly time on June 24 is at 4:30 a.m. while the last day of registration is on June 20.

Registration fee is P350 with free singlet, raffle, certificate and free breakfast from McDonald's. The raffle prizes include one brand new 32 inch Samsung LCD TV, a 22 inch Samsung LCD TV and a washing machine.

Sunrun president Willliam "Tata" Haw said minor raffle sponsors will also be given away. This year's race is sponsored by Zesto, RC Cola, Gatorade. Samsung and Jack Ridge's.

  1. This is good challenge for those who want a new twist to their running activities. And I always like the run programs in Davao because it's cheap!

  2. i've never experienced running in davao, although i've been able to cover several events there as a sports journalist. Yes, you are right, running in davao is cheap.
