Raquin, Raterta tops Condura Skyway Marathon

Ireneo Raquim raises his trophy after winning the 42k
men's race. With Raquim were Ton Concepcion,
Condura Skyway Marathon Founder and Chief Organizing
Officer and Ramon Borromeo,  Skyway President.
Irineo Raquim kept his distance from two other pursuers and crowned himself as the overall men’s 42-kilometer champion of the Condura Skyway Marathon on Sunday, organizers said in a press statement released to media organizations.

He reached the Spectrum Ave. finish line in Filinvest City, Alabang in two hours, 38 minutes and 38 seconds, and was five minutes ahead of Army rival Elmer Sabal.

Since no foreign runner came up with a podium finish in eight categories on tap, the 25-year old Raquim then found himself getting a bonus.
Not only did he win the P25,000 top purse meant for Filipino runners, Raquim went home with an additional purse of P25,000 for finishing first overall, and this gave him a total bonanza of P50,000.

Sabal, bothered by cramps halfway into the race, ended up second in 2:43.38, and received a double prize of P30,000.

And so did third placer Rene Desuyo, who landed third in 2:48.02, and received a total purse of P20,000.

the women's 42K crown.
Laguna standout Luisa Raterta ruled the women’s action in 3:10.05, with Miscelle Gilbuena in second (3:11.10) and Bernardita Mag-Aso in third (3:21.16).

Raterta also doubled her prize winnings, and instead of getting P25,000, she took home P50,000. Gilbuena and Mag-Aso got P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.

Raquim, a native of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, picked up the pace in the last 10 kilometers, and left behind Sabal and Desuyo, who doggedly chased him as they headed down a southeasterly route in Muntinlupa from the Skyway’s entry point in Paranaque.

“Kinuha ko na ang pacing. Kaya, mula nuon, dire-diretso na,” said Raquim.

In other categories, Alley Quisay and Nhe Ann Barcena topped the men’s and women’s 21-km run with clocking of 1:13.42 and 1:32.26.

Jujet de Asis (1:14.51) and Alquin Bolivar (1:17.31 finished behind Quisay, while Janet Agura (1:37.86) and Victorina Calma (1:41.14) landed second and third in the distaff side.

Andrico Mahilum (34:47) claimed the men’s 10-kilometer honors, while Corazon Salcedo (47:16) ruled the women’s side.

Gerald Ambayec (23:09) and Ilana McGrath (23:09) took the men’s and women’s 6k crown, while Enrico Penera (15:30) and Iris Torculas (19:12) won the men’s 3.8 km honors.

A total of 13,323 runners took part in the race, with all finishers getting medals. The finishers of the 42K run also receive an exclusive “I Conquered the Skyway” finishers shirt.

Sunday's  Condura Run  also recorded the biggest growth of 42k runners to 2,650,  which is deemed as the biggest marathon event to date in the Philippines.

The beautiful experience of running on the premiere tollway lured runners from as far Europe, Africa, the United States and neighboring Asian countries.

There were also a good number of running contingents flying in from other regions of the Philippines just to be able to experience running on the Skyway.

“Our vision is to make Condura Skyway Marathon the premier running event in the Asia Pacific that will attract more tourists, promote health and of course save the environment.  This is our own little way of helping promote the country as an exciting eco-sports tourism destination. Running is trully more fun in the Philippines,” shares Ton Concepcion, Founder and Chief Organizing Officer of Condura Skyway Marathon.
